Sarah Clare Brown MNZM, (Ngāpuhi/Te Rarawa) is a best-selling author, communicator, and producer renowned for her impactful community initiatives and non-profit campaigns, including co-founding the global movement; She Is Not Your Rehab.
An adept facilitator of group therapeutic sessions, both inside prisons and in community, Sarah has a deep passion for family harm and gendered violence prevention and is passionate about fostering positive social change through grassroots initiatives and collective healing with the aim of creating violence free communities.
Since 2018, Sarah and Matt have partnered with the NZ government to develop and launch a free app; InnerBoy to promote accessible healing for indigenous men, which is launching in Australia in September 2024 and serves as an ambassador for Aviva Families, a Canterbury, NZ based family violence agency. Her collaborative work with Griffith University’s MATE initiative further underscores her commitment to addressing domestic violence in Australia.
Together the couple co-founded She Is Not Your Rehab and launched the concept in Matt’s 2019 TEDx talk. The movement is an invitation for men to acknowledge their own childhood trauma and to take responsibility for their healing so that they can transform their pain instead of transmitting it on those around them.
They released their first book; the #1 Bestseller She Is Not Your Rehab, simultaneously launching a successful book club program inside multiple prisons in New Zealand, Australia, Cook Islands and Hawaii. Sarah is releasing the follow up book for women in 2025 entitled; I am not your rehab.
Both Sarah and Matt became members of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2022 and were awarded a Commonwealth Points of Light award by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, as Head of the Commonwealth before she passed.
